As the name applies, I am a new DVD ripper. I can rip both video and audio like a pro. The problem lies in that I can't play it on a home DVD player. Is there any hope for me or do I just have to play it on my pc and have my TV running through my ATI Radeon video card?

some home dvd players cannot read dvd-r's at all and some that state they can read dvd-r's cant read certain brands of dvd-r's
The best thing to do to verify its not your burner is to test the dvd you made on some other home dvd players.
If yours is supposed to read dvd-r's try switching brands on dvd-r
the grade a silvertops at Meritline
are affordable and they work in most home dvd players. you can get 25 disks with 25 dvd book cases for 30.50 $ u.s

Well, you can always try ripping the dvd and converting it to a VCD Most dvd players can play those, and if its quality you want which is why ur ripping dvd's, try converting them to SVCD: Better quality. Try TMPGenc, great program.
