    AVI Playing prob

    Hello...

    I've got this problem... Some of my avi's files i downloaded worked fine with divx player alpha2/window's media player 7.1 but some files i downloaded won't work... It says specific modules couldn't be found?
    and also there's this one file i downloaded today it has only the sound but no picture?
    so can you guys help me out

    In order to determine what codec is required for playback, open file in Virtual/nandub and go to File -> File Information. Post what you see here.

      i get this error message when i used virtualdub

      Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'XVID' (unknown)
      VirtualDub requires a video for windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShows codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player are not suitable

      ( This was the file which has sound but no picture )

      the other file which i can't lpay in win media or divx alpha has the following

        Ensure that you have both the XviD and DivX 5.02 codecs installed.

        By the way, your other file appears to be a fake...

          Ahh Xvid seem to solve the prob ^_^ cheers

          my other file? hmm i can preview it in virtual dub but i can't play it in win media... i'ev just convert it so... it works fine thanks alot Enchanter

            Not fake, just very short on key frames , either the index got lost somewhere or it was encoded by a total newbie
