    avi to svcd?

    HI,
    Here is what happened.
I made a SVCD out of a .avi.
Playing the cd in a dvd player showed a upside down picture.
I tryed to create a SVCD again. After the video coding Ner 5.5.9 stopped with the error: see below.
Also trying to create a vcd out of my .avi failed at the same point.
    I use the MPEG2 plugin.
    Anybody knows a solution.

    Peter Sikking.

Use TMPGEnc to perform the actual conversion from .AVI to SuperVideoCD. Use NERO ONLY to burn as SVCD (not create, you will have already done that with TMPGEnc)...

I like to know the reason why thing don't work, if possible.
      And to correct the fault.

The reason is that the conversion procedure of NERO is flawed (The burning procedure is fine).

To correct the fault, once again I'd advise you do the following:

"Use TMPGEnc to perform the actual conversion from .AVI to SuperVideoCD. Use NERO ONLY to burn as SVCD (not create, you will have already done that with TMPGEnc)..."

I did what you suggested. I have a nice .mpg now. Only playing it with a random player doesn't give me a sound. Did I forget something? I didn't select a seperate soundfile because I only have the .avi.
          Peter.

            1) What is the format of the audiostream of the original .AVI? - TMPGEnc cannot process .AC3 or .MP3 in VBR (Variable Bit Rate) format.

            2) Did the "upside-down" version you created using NERO play audio?

            3) Does it play without sound on both your PC and standalone DVD player?

            4) When you loaded the .AVI into TMPGEnc, did the filename show in BOTH the "Video source" and "Audio source" input boxes?

"I did what you suggested. I have a nice .mpg now."

            At least you're part of the way there now ;>}

I don't know the original format of the .avi. I took it from the net. The upside down version was created by Nero.
No sound in stand alone player either.
There are two input boxes when loaded in TMPGenc.

I forgot to mention a few details about the .avi.
size: 640/272. Bitspeed: 192kbps. 23 fps. Dataspeed: 190 kbps. Size: 24bits. Videocompression: XVID.

"I don't know the original format of the .avi."

Load the file into VirtualDub. From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information". Post (here) either via a JPEG screen capture or typing, ALL information (regarding both video and audio) listed...

As I speculated, the audiostream is in .AC3 format (The reference to "Unknown [tag 2000]), which TMPGEnc won't process as part of conversion to SVCD.

You'll have to do the following, in order to create a usable .WAV format audiostream:

**IMPORTANT - VirtualDub v.1.4AC3 is a specific MODIFIED version of VirtualDub!

Load the .AVI file into VirtualDub v1.4C-AC3, set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying" and select (under "File") "Save WAV" - and save as .AC3 (IMPERATIVE to save as .AC3!).

Despite the fact that .AC3 file extracted using VDub-AC3 doesn't play properly, PX3AC3Converter (or BeSweet) will do a perfect job of converting it to .WAV format.

Moving forward all the time and learning fast.
I have a nice .ac3 now, although a lot shorter in playing length than the original .avi.
I can properly play them through my Audigy player.
                        What next?

You can download BeSweet from doom9.org---then do as Setarip indicated.

After having created the wav audio file, process it in TMPGenc along with the video to create a vcd.

This is what I ran in the command prompt window. Nothing happened.

                              g:\BeSweet065GUI\BeSweetGUI0.6b65.exe -core( -input j:\Loadable\Films\Insomnia CD1.ac3 -output j:\Loadable\Films\Insomnia CD1.WAV -2ch ) -azid( -n1 -s stereo -c normal -L -3db --maximize ) -profile( ~~~~~ Default Profile ~~~~~ )
