This could be because you don't have the right codecs installed. The codecs i find the most versatile are Nimo Build 7 codecs. This is a pack of codecs but you will need to re-install DivX 5.02 available from divx.com, the nimo ones are available on kazaa or if you just stick it in a search engine you should find them.

However if you have these installed and it doesn't work you could try opening your file in media player 2 instead. Right click your file click "open with"then find mplayer2.exe in the program files\windows media player\mplayer2.exe folder and that should do it.

If neither of these work i'm stumped sorry

It could actually be an AVI file renamed to MPEG. I suggest you check its file information via Virtualdub, and from the information garnered, we can determine what can be done to view the video:

          1. Open the file in Virtualdub
          2. Go to File -> File Information
          3. Post what information you see here

p.s. By the way, I have just viewed the thread as of now. Are you that impatient for answers?

What is the error message generated by Virtualdub? In addition, try playing the file in a DVD player software, such as PowerDVD.

Or just go ahead and rename it to avi right away in case it IS really an avi file.
