    Audio Problem with Smart Ripper

    Hello,
I've been ripping the Scooter Encore (The Whole Story) DVD. Everything has been fine until I started on Music Video #9.

    The Tools I'm Using are:

    Smart Ripper 2.40
    vob2audio

After I rip with Smart Ripper I look at the audio stream and it says "[0xC0] Audio Not Specified MPEG1(2Ch)48kHz 16bit"
then after I do the rip. I use vob2audio for the audio.
This is the message I get with vob2audio,

"Ligos Splitter seems to miss an audio stream!
Use the AudioVob-option in Smart Ripper!
Or use VobTools to delete first segment."

I'm not sure how to correct this problem. Can someone please help?

an alternative way of extracting and converting audio streams is this:

    - extract stream with dvd2avi
    - convert the output file with besweet

for the dvd2avi part take a look at my guide (@ part 2.0):

      Audio Problem with Smart Ripper

      Thank you UncasMS,
I was able to get the audio. However, it seems too loud, distorted. It's ok, I can live with it. It would be fine if this project was for me. I bought the DVD. But a friend of mine can't play PAL DVD's on her system.

Is there a way I can get Smart Ripper to see the audio track? Usually, I like how it deals with audio. After Smart Ripper I use vob2audio. As far as I can tell the sound is very clean.

This is the only DVD I've ever had a problem with.

      Thanks again,
      Paskow

when you extract the original AC3 soundstream a distorted file AFTER converting the ac3 to mp3 must be the result of the way/parameter you used for the conversion.

HOW exactly did you achieve your sound file?
        ac3 => mp3 via dvd2avi => besweet?

if so, which settings did you use in besweet?

and by the way: i too prefer the preciseness vob2audio provides and thats why i after all advise the use of vob2audio in my guide.

          Audio Problem with Smart Ripper

Thanks UncasMS so far you've been a great help.
I'm at work right now, so I'll try to remember what I did.
I ripped the track I needed and then followed your guide.

          For audio:
          Track Number: 1
          Channel Format: Auto Select
          Dolby Digital: Demux All Tracks
          Mpeg Audio: Demux All Tracks
          48 => 44.1khz: Off

When the audio file is done it makes a .mpa file. Then I rename it to .mp3. (I hope that was the right thing to do.)

Then I put it in TMPGEnc.

          Thank you,
          Paskow

            Audio Problem with Smart Ripper

By the way, I'm not getting an AC3 sound file. It's a .mpa file.

i'm puzzled by a few details here:

              my guide aims for MPEG4/avi

you're talking about using TMPEG, which is not part of the routine i describe!

thus my question is: which format do you want to create?

              avi/mpeg4
              svcd/mpeg2
              vcd/mpeg1

              ?

MPA audio does NOT equal MP3 audio!

in case you wanted to have an MP3 file in the end, convert that mpa stream to mp3 with Besweet.

                Sorry Sorry Sorry.

                I feel like a goof.

                I'm trying to create a vcd/mpeg1.

I apologise for not following your rutine to the letter. I thought as long as I had the audio file, I would be ok. I was wrong.
I'll follow it exactly when I get home tonight.

By the way, what is a .mpa file?

for VCD stay away from my guide since it deals with mpeg4 not mpeg1!

                  mpa is an audio format

for infos on the conversion from dvd to vcd c.f. here:
These guides describes how to convert a video to DVD, VCD, SVCD, CVD or AVI,DivX,Xvid, ASF and more.

in case your dvd player supports Svcd you should rather create those mpeg2/svcd files, since their quality is much better than vcd.

for SVCD creation DVD2SVCD is an excellent tool!
