    Splitting AVI

I need a program that will split a 13Gb (Yes Gb) .AVI file into multiple smaller files based on either video content (i.e. significant changes in the picture) or based on the time code in the file.

I have fed my Digital 8 camera tape onto the hard disk in full quality, and now I want to edit it in premiere but with just loading smaller files into a bin rather than taking the big file in and then having to chop it in there...

I want this done on an automatic basis, rather than a manual one...

    Help me... John

"VirtualDub does not work with DV quality video... and cannot split the file..."

Are you stating that you've attempted to load such a file into VirtualDub and it refused to accept the file for input?

If so, what was the wording of the error message VirtualDub generated?
If it refers to the lack of an appropriate video codec, serah these forums for "DV2" and you'll find a posting that lists sources for obtaining DV2 codecs.

Or, is it possible that you're not aware of the proper procedures to be applied when using VirtualDub to split an .AVI audio? - most importantly, setting BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copy"...

Similarly, if you DO have a DV2 video codec installed, you should be able to use TMPGEnc to split the video...
