quality problems with virtual dub, help please

I wanted to add permanent subs to my spirit.avi file and burn a SVCD on two CD's using Virtual Dub, TMPGenc en Nero,

I started the frameserve but the quality of the output AND input were bad! the mpeg that i had created was a horror to watch

At first I thought it was a bad quality divx, but it wasn't, i think, because when I got rid of Virtual Dub and did all the work, without subtitles of course, in TMPGenc, it worked perfect in every way!

How can I increase the quality of Virtual Dub, anyone, please,

It's probably something stupid, but I am desperate!

If there is another way of adding the subs permanent, please mention...

    thanx

Not sure if this tool is capable, but I created text for a photoSVCD I had made and it worked excellently.

Stoik - Videoman... a low cost video edit solution with some very nice pre-built functions. maybe that could do it?
