well i did a full-length backup today using 4 passes

compared to what my 2 pass result looks like with 5.0.2 i must say: NO Nth passes for me in the near future!

i dont hardly see any difference in terms of image quality.
so why would i stretch my transcoding time to twice the necessary length?

what happended however, was that my filesize got bigger than calculated!?!?

since this is only one testrun i dont dare generalizing too much, but the quality didnt convince me to use that more time for backups.
the reason for the wrong filesize might have many reason: maybe i simply used a different parameter to what i thought i would be, maybe the tool i used divx503 took th emickey out of me - i dont know yet

      any other results?

Glad to see people are anxiously testing divx 5.03. I'm still waiting for a true torture-test

BTW what encoding procedure did you use Uncasms, I hear GordionKnot 0.27 is incompatibly with divx 5.03.

I did some testing with the muti-pass encoding.
          I created a 640x480 23.976fps 22min YUV2 Huffyuv 9GB segmented avi file.

          My target bitrate was 800kbits
I enabled B-frames and set Psychovisual Enhancements to Strong

          Pass 1: 1:00 n/a
          Pass 2: 0:58 147,322KB
          Pass 3: 0:58 147,292KB
          Pass 4: 0:58 147,290KB
          1 Pass: 0:58 147,026KB
          Quantizer 5: 0:57 181,484KB

The multiple passes didn't seem to do much of anything. The Quantizer 5 looked the best to me followed by the 2nd pass.

compared to what my 2 pass result looks like with 5.0.2 i must say: NO Nth passes for me in the near future!
          I must agree

DVX has been my first choice for quite some time now.

it is much more powerful than gk and it is heavily developed and improved almost very other day by its author Dolemite.

the official website of Dolemite's DVX is here:

the version that is available for download there is not, however, the latest release!

3.0 rc9 is the latest version that is being tested and worked on these days.

ok. i already have the paid version of 5.02, and i need to know how to re-register my upgrade to 5.03, and the bregister.exe in the divx folder-->codec, does not want to load. double click, and my jupiters moon orbits jupiter (my hourglass) then nothing, blank.
they say that i need to encode a video, but i dont want to.

there is no such thing as an RC9 codec!
there has been a Release Candidate 9 of DVX from DOLEMITE (should be rc13 by now) and it can NOW be found following the link i posted above.

until recently version 3 was not publically available but now is!

the new version will again ask for your registration code - no more no less.

if not divx.com will be happy to help out with upgrade support since you have bought the previous version.

it didnt ask for the registration code in the installation, and the manual registration program does not start, could this possibly be a bug that they have to fix?

This is incorrect, if you already have a registred version of divx5.02 or 5.01 pro (paid version), you don't need to enter any registration code. You simply install divx5.03 pro, and it will work with old code.

so that may be why the registration program wont start because i am already registered
