    The Fast and the Furious

I need help getting around the copy protect on the DVD, The Fast and the Furious. The second .vob's audio track is from the narrated "extra's" part of the CD. IT IS NOT a bad rip!

Has anyone figured out how to get around this yet?

    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks

Did you rip the ENTIRE DVD? If so, does it play properly under a software DVD player? Or are you just trying to play the individual .VOB (which may have the audio track order switched - with the switch being recognized by the .IFO file)?

Yes I ripped with SmartRipper, Backup, Movie, and File modes, the entire disc...8 gigs worth.

I started with just a regular rip, noticed the prob with the vob checking the files before I encoded to mpeg. Did a backup of the disc, same thing. All vobs play properly except vob2, which has the wrong audio track. I checked the ifo file using chapterxtractor and smartrippers info file. It is the proper ifo file for the movie.

Any other suggestions? I hear of other people having the same prob with this DVD

"noticed the prob with the vob checking the files before I encoded to mpeg."

Forgive me, but maybe I'm not understanding, so I'll ask again - Did you play your rip of the full DVD, using a software DVD player? if so, did it play properly through the section that exhibits the problem when you just "Check the .VOB"?

No I did not check the movie as a whole. Just the individual vob files one by one. I am not sure how to view the entire movie using the vob files that I ripped to the harddrive with WinDVD. By veiwing from the first vob file, it will play until that file is finished then I will have to manually load the next vob file to view.

I apologize, I misunderstood your question.

If you've ripped the entire DVD (all .VOBs, .IFOs, and .BUPs) to a directory named "Video_ts" on your hard drive, you can do the following (mapping to another drive) to "fool" Win DVD into believing you've got a DVD available for it to play, by doing the following (which assu,es that the folder is on your C: drive in another folder named "FandF"):

At the "Start" button, select "Run". Type subst j: c:\FandF
            Run WinDVD
            Click on "Properties"
Change "Default DVD Drive" to J:
Enter a checkmark in "Auto Play"
            Exit "Properties"
If the movie doesn't start (WinDVD is sometimes inconsistent), close WinDVD and restart it - the movie will then start as if playing from a DVD, with all WinDVD's controls available.

To eliminate the mapped drive when you're finished, press "Start", select "Run", and type subst j: /d (there's a space between : and /).

If the ripped DVD plays properly using this method, you can feel comfortable that when you create the .AVI (or MPEG) it will play properly (both video and audio).

ok, I will try that in the morning, well after I wake up. I need to get some needed sleep.

FYI, I re-ripped the DVD again, this time using v-strip. Same thing, except this time on the third vob file the sound track was from teh narrated extra instead of the second like the orginal rip. So I replaced the second vob file from the original rip, with this one from the re-rip. Worked great, only to find out that now the third vob file of the orginal rip now is in french, the rest are fine. Go figure. (Hope I didn't loose you)

If this is copy protection....its a good one. I have never seen this one before. The Matrix was tough...this one too. hehe

Anyways, I will veiw the DVD in the morning like you said I should try. Maybe I will get lucky!

                Hi Setarip,

I understand the concept of the mapped drive etc but when I go into the properties of Win DVD it will only let you select the drive letters of the computers IDE Cdroms i.e. drive f or g - it will not let you select J just as it will not let you select drives C & D etc

                Any ideas??

                Best Regards

                Bill

I think you are on the right track with copying the good sound from one rip into another rip. I have also read that you can rename the sound stream if needed (EX. 081 to 080).
The only title I have had trouble with is Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Stream 080 in in an asian language and when I select 081 (which worked as a test when encoding only a minute) I get now sound on the finished movie. I am trying the long approach now by direct streaming the audio and converting it later. Just for info. I did the Matrix the first attempt with standard settings.

                  DR.

                    1) Does your "Video_ts" folder contain all of the elements of the DVD?

                    2) After you've run the "subst j:" command, check in Explorer to see if it now lists a "J:" drive and then check to see if the "J:" drive contains a folder named "Video_ts".

With a fresh start this morning, and needed sleep, I set out today to overcome the rip problem. I revamped what I did last night, reveiwed it, and tried something that came to my mind in bed last night.

I fired up DVD2AVI, frameserved the vob in question into TMPGEnc and encoded the clip....to my surprise, DVD2AVI ripped the correct sound track. I went back to the trouble vob file, viewed it with WinDVD again, it still had the same problem.

After a little more testing of all the vob files, I followed setarip's directions and viewed the entire DVD from harddrive...well skimmed to the chapters with the "problems", correct soundtrack was playing.

setarip, thanks for the advice..it helped and is much appreciated!

I have to say this though, I have been ripping DVD's for almost 2 years now to [S]VCD and DivX on occasion, and have never ran across this problem. Wierd.

Different Problems ... smae movie, same file

                        Hi,

I am fairly new to the world of Digital Video so I hope that these questions/problems are neither obvious or stupid.

I am also having troubles with the 2nd vob file of the movie but my problem is that I can't rip it. All of the other files seem to come off nice and fine but not this one. I have also tried multiple modes of Smart Ripper 2.41 and Vstrip. It completes about 360 MB of the 1GB file and then just dies in both applications.

I have even tried to just manually move the file off of the DVD (knowing that it would not do me any good) and that does not even work. It pops up with an error that says something about 'Cyclic Redundancy check'. The other files can be moved fine via this method. Any help would be appreciated.

Just a quick run down of my machine just in case it is needed:

AMD Athlon XP 1800+, 1GB ram, HP DVD writer dvd100i

                        Any help would be appreciated.

                        Thanks
