can i put a MPEG or AVI on a dvd?

i still hvent found out if i can put a MPEG file on a dvd, i know how to make a back-up and how to encode to mpg, but is it possible to encode the .mpg back to vob files?

Using dvd authoring software, you can burn mpeg's to the proper dvd format.

Alternatively, you may also be able to creat (s)vcd dvd's (which may not be compatible on all stand alone players).
