AVI Audio de compression problems

I've been trying to convert a avi file to VCD and can't decompress the audio. I'm using Visual dub and have tried the usual method, also converting to wav but it won't work. The error reported is ACM failed to suggest audio decompression format, any ideas???

Despite the error message:

1) Load the .AVI file into VirtualDub or NanDub

2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (both video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

AC3 codec solution

Download a AC3 codec and it still gives me the same problem " ACM failed to suggest a audio format. I have download the codec in to the Visual dub directory. Do I need to do anything else?

downloading is not INSTALLING

no idea what you downloaded - you should find some readme normally

basic ac3 filter usually install like this: copying the content to windows\system(32) and registering it with a command like this:

regsvr32 /s iviaudio.ax
regsvr32 /s mpgaudio.ax

(example above is for the typical intervideo files)
