The ONE (single) application to convert DVD to divx?

    Hello everyone!

DVD has been around for a while, and the divx format has shown its staying power.

So, I can finally get into "divx-making" myself

I have a laptop without DVD drive, so I want to watch some movies during long commuting times.

Therefore, I ask you: what is the best software to rip DVDs into Divx?

The criteria are as follows (all are important, no priority):

    1) Excellent quality of final results
    2) Number of options (i.e. 2 CDs option etc.)
    3) Ease of use (only a few buttons to push, not 100)
    4) A single program (not a succession of "rip with this-calculate bitrate with that- convert with the other one...")

If you wish, call it "Divx for dummies" - you know, something like the Wizard in Nero...

So, although some of you will argue I need to use Smart Ripper and then Vidomi, or something else, I'm saying that it has to be ONE application that does all - I'd just put the DVD in the drive, launch the software, and some couple of hours later, I get to burn a CD with the end-result (.avi or the like)...

    Is there such software available?

To get an idea about divx encoding read the doom9.org encoding guides, programs such as GKNOT can greatly simplify encoding but you will need to adjust certain parameters and settings.

I'd be interested to find out more about one app to do the whole job. I'm currently using cladDVD to rip the VOB files and then using DVD2AVI for the avi files. Then I use TMPGEnc to turn it into an MPEG. I'm relatively happy with the results but it takes a long time to go through the whole process, up to 12 hours in some cases. Memory isn't a problem for me but I do like good quality. I'll keep checking this thread to see the results.
