I can't go higher then 352x288

sorry about my english
i have winxp sp1, 256mb ram, 1gh athlon ....
and i can't capture video from my hauppauge tv turner or convert dvd-s on higher resulutions then 352x288. virtualdub gives "unsupported format" error and flaskmpg just won't let me set higher resolutions. i tried different codec's - huffyuv, indeo, divx, dvid, etc. but problem remains the same.
can anybody help me
