    Format Issues

hey does any one know what format(s) can be played in a playstation 2? heres my problem i want to burn movies i download off the net and burn them 2 be played in my ps2. i know ps2 will play dvd so my question is...
is there a encoder to encode movies from mpeg/avi to dvd format?
or is there another format a ps2 will also recognize that would not require a new format. thanks

TMPGEnc can encode existing video files to DVD-compatible MPEG-2 files . . .

      the little I know

I spent some time trying to determine if there was any way to use the PS2 for play back of anything other than DVD.
      No on VCD/CSD/SVCD.
DVD only plays IF region code is set. Stripped code fails on playback. If we encode DVD format on a CD, the trouble is the short length of play time we can get onto the CD. ~16 mins I believe. It was a fun experiment but now that DVD players are 41 bux, my advice is just walk away.
Which reminds me of an old problem, does anyone know the 3 digit Universal programming code for the remote control on a PS2? Even Sony couldn't tell me!
