    dolby question

i have a question about dolby. if i had a sound card with optical out hooked into a surround sound receiver, and played a divx movie, would my receiver decode into 5.1?

If your receiver has the feature of upmixing (Dolby Surround Pro Logic or the like), then yes. Otherwise, it is a no.

ok, my reciever has pro-logic. would it still work without a soundcard with optical-out?

I suggest you try connecting your PC to the receiver and find out the answer yourself.

If you have a pro-logic only reciever then it will most definitly not have any optical inputs. Optical or coaxial inputs are for dolby digital and dts surround. Pro-logic only needs an analog stereo signal.
