wmv turns out 1 minute long?

When playing some of my .wmv in windows media player, the player says that the movie's just 1 minute, the "meter" goes really fast, but if I click somewhere in the meter then the actual place in the movie shows up. Hmm, hard to explain, it's like the moviefile was wrong indexed. any ideas?

What software and procedures did you use to create the .WMVs?

It's movies d/l from the net. I also just noticed that it happens to some mpegs.

What version are you using of WMP?

I have the same problem, but it allso applies to some mpg files aswell. It happened after i installes wmp 9. Any ideas?

tried installing latest windows media codecs (from (www.windowsmedia.com)?
also, tried playing it in WMP6.4?
