Very silent audio in .mpg file

I have a .mpg file, which audio is so silent, I have to push bars from the audio settings almost all way to the top, which causes my ears hurt, if windows makes any other noise.

Is there some program which would allow me to make the audio of this .mpg louder? (such as MP3 Trimmer for mp3s)

Using tmpgenc, demux the audio to mp2.
You can convert the mp2 to wav using winamp.
Also, using the EQ in Winamp, the volume can be
    increased (worth a try)

    If that doesn't work,
The audio can be normalized using any wave editor such
as cool edit, goldwave, soundforge, etc, etc.

Some times the audio problem with dvdrips is that the exrteme
dynamic range. Most of the audio takes place at a relatively
low level, to save head room for really loud parts, explosions
    etc...

In that case, sound forge and other wav editors can be used
to make the dynamic range narrower. This is effective,
better than normalization in these cases.
It has the effect of making the extreme load parts quieter,
while making the stuff at the bottom loader.
    Good luck -
    Dave

Thanks for the answers, but I don't really understand what good is demuxing the audio....do I have to normalize the .wav and then somehow reattach it to the .mpg?
