    1) make sure that your DVD-player supports DVD-R
    2) rip the whole DVD to your hdd
    3) burn all files to a DVD-R

That works for all(?) video-DVDs. Don't know how it works with audio-DVDs.

      Thankx

If I buy a DVD burner and copy the movie to my hdd, won't it turn them into .vob files. And what is the deal with the movies being over 4.9 gb. oh well. I want to buy the right type..does anyone recommend a certain brand of DVD burner that actually copies my movies and plays them onto a dvd player and not only on the computer.

4.7 GB seems to be the maximum for DVD-R. As much as I know is that 9.4-DVDs are double-side discs. You can burn 2 movies with up to 4.7 GB on them, but not easiely 1 movie with up to 9.4 GB.

        For good DVD-recordes best look on a DVD-R-manufacturers homepage. Mopst of them have compatibility-lists. I.e. : verbatim.com

ripping or just plain mpeg2 files

          benderman et al,

I probably don't want to rip a whole DVD. We do seem to have some guides on this. I'll want to rip out a sceen or two.

I really want to put some VHS stuff onto DVD-R. Is there a how to for converting from mpeg2 files created by capturing with my ATI AIW radeon card to DVD-R or do I just burn 'em with Nero?
