Well I currently favor two different methods.

1: Flask 0.6 with subtitles fix.
Open the correct ifo file and select the audio and subs I want.
Calculate bitrate for 2 cd rip. chop to 704*X, and click 'Falsk It'

Pros: very fast to set up, flawless subtitle* support.
Cons: No filtering possible other than chop & resize.
    Limited choise of audio formats.
Impossible to do two-pass in one go.

    2: GodianKnot
I pretty much follow this guide:

Pros: 2-pass encoding of multiple movies in one pass.
    VBR audio encoding.
Cons: Takes 10 times longer to setup a transcoding.

*I prefer to encode the subs directly into the avi.
Donate your idle CPU time for something usefull.

everyone does it different..here's what works for me..
rip with "smart ripper", choose " backup" to do the whole dvd
then i put the vob's into "dvd2avi" and select"save as project"
it creates a virtual avi file and also a wav file.
then i use tmpg enc to encode to mpeg format which also puts them together.
i use mpegs vcd format to watch on my dvd player.
the other guys who will post after this use divx.
      so wait for another post..lol
