question about converting mpeg1 to dvd

i am currentlly useing ulead moviemaker 7 to burn movies from avi,mpeg and divx on to dvd-rs.

but it seems it takes like 9 hours or so to encode and then burn

is there a faster or better way of doing this..??.

JUST TO ADD.....

i have other movies that are in divx,avi, and mpeg format
but some of them don't seem to work in ulead movies maker 7 or videostudios they say incorrect format or something to that effect
i can burn to dvd-r..

is there better s/w out that i can converter ANY format into dvd fomat then burn to a dvd-r to use on standalone dvd players

8 or 9 hours is perfectly nrmal length of time for encoding. It takes about 11 hours to encode LOTR from avi to mpeg2 using TMPGEnc.
