    VDub DV AVI codec problem

I'm trying to splice a couple of PAL DV AVI files in VDub 1.5.4 but when i try to open the source file it just tells me it 'couldn't locate decompressor for format 'dvsd' (unknown)'.

TMPGEnc also gives an error - 'cannot open or unsupported'.

This is on the same PC I used to export the files from Premiere 6.0 using standard Microsoft DV settings. The files play back fine in Premiere, Media Player, etc... They are combined audio and video AVIs and one is 4GB, the other 235MB. I'm using Win2k and the latest versions of VDub and TMPGEnc.

    Any ideas?

it seems to me that Vdub cannot get hold of the
DV decoder. it may be the fact , that they are not registerd with
windows 2000 properly. sometimes the dv codecs that come with
certain applications are only visible for certain programs.
the tsunami filterpack 3.9.9 would provide you with some dv codecs
and afaik the canopus is one of the best.
download the filterpack from the softwaresection of this
    site ,

install using the custom mode and check only the dv codecs.
--> reboot and then load your movie into virtualdub again.

    good luck.

ok that sounds like a plan - but...

i'm running a Matrox RT2500 which has hardware DV codecs. to be honest, this is probably the source of the problem - i don't think all apps support the RT codecs (in particular, TMPG and VDub - any info to the contrary would be most appreciated!!!).

but if the tsunami DV codecs supersede the Matrox DV codec for Matrox RT DV footage i'll be in a lot of bother then too.

      any thoughts?
