    burning

i have just bought some cd-rw (packard bell 1x-10x compatible). i tried to burn a mpeg file to it and got the following message:

The recorder does not support this type of media
Please insert a correct media to write to
Medium required for the compilation CD-R/RW
Medium type in the recorder (Empty)

It appears the cd drive is not reading the cd, but the cd is clearly in the drive. when i copy a file directly from the hard drive to cd it works fine???
    my cd burner is 8x/4x

unfortunatly you have not provided information on:

    2. brand and model of the writer you use
    3. procedures and burning programms you use
    4. what kind of data you like to burn!!

this information is essential to be of any help!!!

It appears the cd drive is not reading the cd, but the cd is clearly in the drive. when i copy a file directly from the hard drive to cd it works fine???

is incorrect. the cd drive is not reading the cd at all.

Yeah...I've got your drive. So you burned something from your HDD using Nero and then you get that message when you try to view your freshly burned CD? And Nero said the burn was successful?

What type of CD do you have? is it a CD-R or CD-RW or a CD+R or CD+RW?

hmmmm....I guess you cant make sure the RW is erased if the drive doesn't recognize it....you have another disc? I wonder if your burner has an updated driver?
