Subtitles on DVD

I used DVDshrink (which I think is great and easy to use) and I, both, re-authored the movie and re-encoded it. I used Nero to burn the DVD. It works great on my standalone player, but I now have sub titles. What am I doing wrong and how can I get rid of them.

Would you provide some clarification, please? Are you saying that the original DVD doesn't contain subtitles but, somehow, your DVD Shrink re-authored DVD does have subtitles?

Thanks for taking the time to answer my post. I was using the wrong setting (button) on my dvd player. I have a button that tells me which subtitles and I thought I could turn them off like that. However, I have an additional button (that I didn't notice) that says Subtitles off/on. They should really make remote controls easier to use....
