DivX .avi file conversion to videotape/DVD

To the best of my knowledge I haven't seen this category!

I have a DivX .avi movie file and wondered if there was a method whereby this could be converted to a videotape or DVD so that it could be watched on the VCR or DVD, rather than my having to watch it on the PC? Preferably the VCR!

Would appreciate your comments, as this is new territory for me. Thank you.

Well, The easiest way to copy to VHS is to simply connect your computer to the VCR the same way as you do on your TV and then just record by playing the file on the computer.

Most VCR:s today have SCART and a SVHS/Audio to SCART wire will cost you app. 15€ or $. However if you have a VCR with SVHS input you don't need the SCART. You might have to read the VCR manual since you probably got to change the VCR settings a bit. It's really the same as copying from VHS to VHS.

    Good luck GG

Hmm, I see you're australian. I've got no idea what the wire will cost in your currency

Many thanks for your prompt reply.

Now that I have the information you gave, I will have a go!

Previously, I hadn't the faintest idea how to even approach it.

Cheers, from Ruth in Melbourne, OZ.

        Hi Ruth,

I have tried many ways, I know you want it to a VCR, however if you ever decide to cvonvert to it a DVD, then make sure you get

        1. TMPGenc (have it on the NTSC/PAL DVD template), convert the whole move, then
        2. You need Ulead Video Studio 7, and you can burn it to a dvd.

Trust me, it's taken me 3 months to get it right...

        Good luck

Thanks Birky for all the help.

What exactly is TMPGenc please? I believe the NTSC/PAL DVD template I've seen on the menu either on the TV or the DVD.

Ulead Video Studio 7.0 looks good.

TMPGEnc is a mpeg/avi encoder capable of generating DVD compliant files. Use TMPG Author to create DVDs from the files generated by TMPGEnc.
