System hangs while ripping DVD in a new DVD-recorder

Hi, I am trying to copy a DVD and the system just hangs on me (at least I can't shut down it and close the ripping application, though it can run other programs selectively)

Try using SmartRipper 2.41. You may need to install an aspi layer for this.

Are you able to PLAY the DVD, from the burner, on your PC?

I can't burn DVDs cause I can't rip them.
I can play non-burnt DVDs on the PC.
I have not tried say 2 hours, but it starts fine and switches scenes fine.
