Restart in MS DOS mode with Windows ME URGENT!

Ok right now I am at a friends house and they have an older comupter. I have never worked with Windows ME so how can I restart it into MS DOS so I can format it because I need to revert it to Windows 98. Thank you all for the help

I didn't know you could restart XP Home in MS/DOS (considering there is no MS/DOS underlying layer...the "F" buttons only emulate MS/DOS function.

I didnt need to restart it in MS DOS mode. I went to the command prompt in XP (after I took the hard drive that needed to be formated out of the other computer and hooked it up to mine) and put in "format f:\" then it said there were some open channels which was the problem right clicking on the icon and clicking format wouldn't work. The command prompt was able to shut them down and I got it all done
