Video/Audio out of sync in DivX AVI file

When recording from VCR through TV card to DivX file, the sync started to slip somewhere, and gets quite bad as the playback progresses. The error is in the file and not a result of the playback, since I have a powerful computer that can handle the video. How could I rectify the problem without re-recording? he guy who recorded for me has a top-of-the-range pc so it couldn't be his processor that caused the lag could it? Maybe his TV card or his use of the DivX codec (5.02)? Thanks in advance...

You can correct audio synch in VirtualDub (for AVI) or VirtualDubMod (for MPEG2). If synch problems are due to dropped frames you're not getting a "lossless" capture...and if friend is using an external hardware device for capture dropped frames usually occur at the connection...which is why it's so important to use the expensive gold cables to connect to the PC.
