    Codec Help!

    Hi,

Can someone please give me the links or tell me exactly which codecs i need. Im trying to make vcds and im having alot of probs and im sure its due to having a stack of conflicting codecs on my computer.

Ive since uninstalled all codecs and im starting again.

I have gspot but it tells me i have all needed codecs installed but i still cant view the movie.

So if someone could give me links or the exact names of the bundles or files im likely to need w/out causing codec conflict it would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

"I have gspot but it tells me i have all needed codecs installed but i still cant view the movie"

Which movie? The original (presumably .avi) or the resulting .mpg (presumably VCD-compliant) file?

The avi. Shawshank redemption and training day. I downloaded divx5.1.1 from the divx website and also 3ivx d4 codec. With these installed gspot told me that all necesary codecs were installed for audio and visual.

When i rendered it, it wont play, nor will it play in real one or wmp.

Just wondering what the main codecs required would be to be able to create vcds? ie what do you have on your computer enchanter?

      cheers

"When i rendered it, it wont play, nor will it play in real one or wmp."

Have you tried any other players, such as BSPlayer or WMP 6.4?

"Just wondering what the main codecs required would be to be able to create vcds?"

Whatever is needed to decode the source (in your case, the DivX decoder should do).

"what do you have on your computer enchanter?"

Codec-wise, only what I use and need. Simple is the best.

        Regards.

I'm not familiar with Gspot despite it's popularity.
Can you load your offending file into VirtualDubMod and post here what File Information reveals?

ok, i have uninstalled all codecs + wmp and have installed the following codecs/packs at the advice of http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/48608

            Nim050build9
            Indeo 3,4,5
            Divx pro5.1.1
            divx 3.11 alpha
            Ogg Vorbis DirectShow Filter
            Install FFDShow Filter.
            wmp9 codecs
wmp8 codecs (upgrade newere components only)
            divxfix
            avifix
            ac3filter

I can now load all avi's into vdub with the audio audio either slightly out of sync or very patchy depending on the avi.

Fast and furious for instance is patchy and out of sync here is the vdub file info

            VIDEO

            Frame size- 564 x 240 23.976 (41708)
            decompressor- divx mpeg-4 low motion
            key frames- 2353
            min/avg/max total key frame size- 761/10658/46539 (24492k)
            min/avg/max delta frame size- 0/3630/41203 (536484k)
            data rate- 717kps (0.64% overhead)

            AUDIO

            48000hz
            2 (stereo)
            Sample precision- N/A
compressor- fraunhoffer iis mpeg layer-3 codec
            layout- 322 chunks (0.02s preload)
            length 125916960
            min/avg/max total frame size- 384/478/576 (151k)
            data rate- 157kps 4.78% overhead.

So my problem is two pronged

1)wmp or real one player wont work it comes up with-
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The file is either corrupt or the Player does not support the format you are trying to play". This is with any and every avi, although MPG and WMV files do work. I have selected avi in wmp option, so i cant work out what it is.

            2) Fix the patchy and out of sync audio in my avi files, they used to be 100% in sync before i unistalled all codecs. I did this because i believe i had too many codecs installed, which was causing my vcd's to be out of sync.

I appreciate your help guys, im really battling here.

            Thanks in advance.

Jkillin, sorry I went missing just then - time zones are a pain

Setarip, am I right to assume then from Jkilin's "This is with any and every avi" that the codec processes all avi's even plain ones?
                  Cheers

                    No worries sfheath

I have already installed the divx 3.11 alpha codec, i mentioned it in the list of installed codecs. Avi's still wont play.

I downloaded vdubmod and it stated something like "delete angelpotion codecs as they cause lots of probs" Maybe this has something to do with it.

I must have failed to uninstall angelpotion, it isnt list in the add/remove programs section, nor can i find it in programfiles, how can i delete it on xp?

                    thanks guys

If you know the filename the .ax file associated with the Angelpotion codec, you can simply delete the said file and be rid of the codec for good. .ax files are normally located in the \Windows\System32\ folder.

                      Regards.
