Does burning speed affect quality/life of DVD?

Does burning speed affect quality/life of DVD?

I have a Plextor 708a and it burns a 4.7GB in about 8 minutes or less(8x). Does this affect the quality or lifespan of the disc? I have heard(don't know the truth to it) that the slower the burn, the deeper it burns, therefore the better the burn. Is there any truth to that?

I have burned a few DVDs using the same Plextor 708A at 8X and so far the discs have been working fine.

    Regards.

I think that used to be true way back in the day when burners lacked large buffers. Faster speeds have more chance of the burner not being able to read the data fast enough and a burner will continue to burn even if it is not receving any data and that results in a dead disc.

There is probly still some truth to slow urns being better even today but I never have problems.
