Yup. Same problem I have. Sometimes I just can't get the picture quality I'm shooting for when I rip my DVD's using DivX so I go with Xvid.

I don't think the problem has anything to do with the sound or filters installed. I rip a DVD to Xvid with PCM sound and I get the same problem if I load the file into tmpegnc. It's just that it happens immediately, within the first few frames.

It's apparent to me that tmpegnc has a problem with some Xvid encoded movies no matter what sound format the file has. I say "some" because I have successfully converted Xvid to VCD using tmpegnc many times before, but none of those successful conversions were using Xvid files that I encoded myself. Heck, some were even littered with errors and I managed to make it work.

None of the perfect Xvid rips that I encode from DVD myself will work in tmpegnc. "Invalid pointer operation" occurs or sometimes tmpegnc just suddenly closes for no apparent reason.

Anyone figure this one out PLEASE POST THE SOLUTION!

          Invalid pointer operation

Comming from another forum with the same discussion,

someone over there told us that this error means that you are using TMPGEnc illigal ie hacked or cracked ie illigal serial.

I dont know if this is true, cos i'm using it in demo status now and i have the same problem everythime i want to convert an Xvid file,
i have no problems with other coded movie files.

And nearly a month later, I say...

              Ya. nonsense indeed.

Awe heck. who knows for sure the cause. I haven't had the problem since, but I've cleaned up my registry, ousted out-of-date codecs and directshow dependent applications, and upgraded bunch of other video related crap since then.

Software developers cannot possibly predict every interaction between applications/hardware on a given system. That's why man invented so-called tech-support.

Damn. Maybe we can blame this one on a higher being, just like the dog born with only 3 legs. Well it's one more leg than I have!

              Peace.
