    DVD wont play please help

I'm new at this, so please be patient.

I have an HP DVD400i burner. it uses +r, +rw media

My stand alone DVD player is a Samsung DVD P421

I used the burning software that came with the burner (HP DVD Record Now)

I tried making a DVD with +r and +rw DVDs and neither worked.

The files on my burnt DVDs are .BUP, IFO and VOB.

The burnt DVDs will not play on my computer either.

I have gone through the DVD Shrink help files and tutorial several times and am about to give up and buy DVD X Copy, but I really dont want to.

    Help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Download DVD Shrink-its free!
and use it to Decrypt your movies to your hard drive.

Then use/buy Nero's burning tool to burn the downloaded files to your DVD burner.

The HP software I wouldn't use.

    Good Luck.

      I did use DVD Shrink.

Why does it matter what burning software I use?

Can't really answer as to why it should matter which burning software you use.
I just know that Nero works with Shrink files.

Possibly HP doesn't want us decrypting DVD's so they throw a conflict in their software to corrupt the data (not allow dvd's to be copied).

Not sure if you have to buy Nero (it came included with my burner).

Probably a free/demo version available-If it helps you then it's a no brainer.

"I have an HP DVD400i burner. it uses +r, +rw media"

I would be very surprised if the burner did not accept "-r" media. Generally speaking, I would use "rw" disks to check and see if your burn was successful, and then if it is, use a "DVD-r" to make your permanent copy. DVD-r are much more stable media across the board with standalone players.

I Will probably take back the HP burner, as it only accpets +r media.

Im going to have to look for a burner that is compatible with -r or both.

            Thanks
