    Geek Call-dvd read speeds

Been playing around with shrink, nero, and copying on the fly!
Varying results speed wise. Trying to get a handle on this.
Burning at 8x with plex 708, copying is slower, would like to find
    a faster reader than my Lite-on 166s.
Quantifying with nero cd-dvd speed 2.11.
If this isn't the best place for this please send me elsewhere!

I'm not sure what you mean but I went ahead and pulled up specs on both those drives outa cureosity.

    Plextor 708:
    8x DVD+R write
    4x DVD-R write
    4x DVD+RW rewrite
    2x DVD-RW rewrite
    12x DVD-ROM read
    40x CD-R write
    24x CD-RW rewrite
    40x CD-ROM read speeds

    Lit-On 166S:
    16X DVD-ROM read
    48X CD-ROM read

You mean you want a burner that can read faster then the Lite-On?

****locked at 2x with movie dvd's, fine wouldn't touch it
that's not what a standalone dvd burner is for!*****

      Lit-On 166S:
      16X DVD-ROM read

***you have to test with cd/dvd speed on dvd-r and dvd+r.
      getting an average of 6.5x***

Nope, want confirmation of a faster dvd-rom drive reading
      dvd-/+ r's!
