    mpg video

I downloaded an mpg video from the internet, but can't play it. Windows media player says it is not a playable format. I tried other players too. Is there a way to find out what codec is it using? Or maybe a program to fix an mpg fil (something like divfix, but for mpg).

    Thanks

    1) Load the original video file into VirtualDubMOD
    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

setarip, I tried what you suggested, but virtualdubmod says "cannot detect file type of (filename)"

Try playing it in BSPlayer...if it refuses to play it it will sometimes tell you why (what CODEC you need)...sometimes.

"setarip, I tried what you suggested, but virtualdubmod says 'cannot detect file type of (filename)'"

Then it's probably either a fake file or a corrupted file...
