I have got a movie and I can play it with most players but I can't forward it.. so I have to watch the film from the beginning and if I want to skip a part it just starts all over again.. can anyone tell me how I can forward?

First of all is the movie a backup or an original?
Secondly what media are u using dvd+-/R/RW?
Are u watching it on ur pc or set top player?
Most of the time its the recordable media not being handled well with the set top player. Try playing it on another player, see how it goes.

If you have an rw disc, try to make a back-up and see how the back-up does.

If it's an .AVI, use VirtualDubMOD to "reindex the keyframes...

            Hi,

The movie has (most probably) a faulty index this means that you can't fast forward in the movie because it can't jump frames. To solve this problem you will have to reconstruct the index. Get virtualdub (freeware) open the movie with this program and save it with audio and vidoe set as direct stream under a different name. That's it takes less the 5 min and your movie is repaered

              Excellent....

              "I have a movie....."
this tells us that you have a movie, and nothing else.
your movie could be in any format, which makes it quite difficult for us to help you, since we cannot guess the format your movie is in.
if you'd like to receive proper advice you should provide more information on your movie. this can be easily done by using a program called Gspot, which is available at the software section of the site. simply analyze your movie with that, and posted here what it says.
or simply do a screen shot off your analysis,
              and posted in here.
then we might be able to tell you the proper program,
to fix your movie or to rebuild the index of the movie or even to reencode your movie and add for example bidirectional all or progressive frames if necessary.
this would enable you to scroll forward and backwards.

I see what ur problem is.
You have to hilight all the files with ur dvd player in order to fastforward otherwise u have to open each file individually to see the movie.
