    Avi sound but no video

I dowloaded an avi file that will play only audio..no video. I've popped it into virtual dub, the Playa, and some other utils, none will even open it. I've tried to rebuild the index with DivFix, and it wont even open it. I've tried pretty much everything I've read in these forums..to no avail. One thing that might help, is that is a 7:19 min file, playing at 96 kbit/sec, and the file is only 5mb. I'm new to this, but that sounds pretty heavily compressed.

    Please help!!

What do you believ this .AVI file to containe? If it's purportedly a full length movie, at 7:19 it's a certainty that it's either not a complete file or, more likely, a phony file.

If, under Explorer, you rightclick on the file and click on "Properties" and the select the "Details" tab, you should see information regarding the video and audio codecs used to create the file.

Do let us know what information is indicated.

I'm running XP. When I do a properties, I dont get any info like that. I get "type of file" and then "open with Windows Media Player" It is listed in the window as an AVI file. Thats about all I can tell you from what I see. Sucks huh

I am experiencing the same problem. Only certain vids wont play, and I tried other media players but only Windows Media Player will play it with sound, but no picture. I downloaded the div-x codec, I even tried changing it to .avi .mpg .mpeg but .mov is the only one that plays sound only. HELP!!

            Thanx
