Can't compress avi file

when i try to compress an avi file so it fixes into one cd-rom, there are some files that when they reach a certain frame an error occurs. The error that appears is the following: VideoSourceAVI(ICDecopressor):unespecifies error(-100)
How can i solve tha problem?

What software are you trying to use to compress the file?

What format are you trying to convert/compress it to?

What codecs (video and audio) were use dto create the original .AVI file?

the software i used was VirtualDul 1.48. The file was a avi (divx) file i downloaded from the net (five parts each with 225 Mb). I tried to was also divx, but smaller (less birate). With the most of the movies it works but with some the error i mentioned occurs.
