DVD 2 DV / Editing ripped DVD video

    Hi all,

I wanna capture stuff from different DVDs and edit them in premiere - juz so that I have 5-15 min trailers of the coolest wushu ever, or coolest anime etc

I've done a lot of ripping/converting/encoding etc. before so know all that stuff, but I dont wanna edit with divx or xvid or mpeg, mainly because the first 2 arent good for editing (very slow seek rates) and mpeg obviously isnt very good quality to edit, then re-encode.

I was wondering whether there is any software which converts VOB files to DV AVI or DV MOV (high bitrate, but very efficient for editing, and good quality)

I could juz output the DVD into my DV Cam thru the analog in and then capture that back on the PC, but there would be quality loss in the digital - analog - digital process, so I would like to avoid that if possible...

    thx for your help,

Well you could make a aviscrypt and load it into VD and use rgb as compression. File will be huge but no Quality loss.

In view of the fact that (your source material) a .VOB file is an MPEG-2 file with extended capabilities (multiple audiostreams, etc.), if your editing needs are simply putting clips together onto one DVD (with a menu and chapters, if you like), I'd suggest you use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (Different than "TMPGEnc")... and "TMPGEncPlus")

        THx for the suggestions,

I dont think I can do the "TMPGEnc DVD Author" route, cos I really wanna edit them quite heavily (fx and stuff) in some editing/compositing soaftware (like premiere or afterfx).

The "aviscript" route sounds interesting, but can it output to any installed codec? (I really wanna work with DV - AVI or MOV doesnt matter) I thought it was mainly for mpeg2 encoding and creating DVDs.

Surely there has got to be a converter out there which allows you to choose any codec you have installed instead of just forcing DivX or whatever!
