Newbie Dope - Can burn CD-R's but not DVD's of anykind

I'm new and have looked, but alas my eyes have crossed. Here's my trouble. I have Sony RS420 with a DVD-RW & CD-RW. I also have Nero 6.3.1.6. I cannot burn any flavor of DVD (RW's -R's +R's), but I can work work with any flavor of CD. The Nero message says "Your Compilation cannot be written to this kind of disc". Feel free to beat me with a stick if I have misse d the obvious or need to post more info. Forever yours.

Make sure that when you are starting a new project in nero that you choose DVD and not CD in the upper left hand corner of the new compilation dialog box. You'll then have to choose what type of DVD you want to create below that (DVD-ROM, video, etc.)

I'm flogging myself now. 30 lashes. Thanks a million. What a dope. I appreciate your help. What has everyone else done in here that creates what seems like so much trouble with DVD ripping and burning? Mine works fine, I just don't know how to work the software. May you live forever.
