    Which Stream to use on DTS

    I posted awhile back about the problems I had in extracting sound from "Cast Away" using Smartripper. Video came out fine, but no audio at all. Anyway, it was suggested that I use the second stream to get the audio. I'm going to try that tonight. Any other suggestions? I will check back in here later to announce my success, or seek more help.

    Do I sense a touch of skepticism? ;>}

    First try my original suggestion - which I'm rather confident will work. If, for some reason, it doesn't, others may have additional suggestions...

      Some Additional Questions

      I hope "setarip" sees this. I'm using VOBrator to pull the audio stream on Cast Away. Cast Away's vob files are vts_03_1.vob thru vts_)3_8.vob. I use VOBrator to scan the vts_03_1.vob file and it list the audio files as:
      SPES 0x20 thru 0x25
      DTS as AES 0x88
      AES 0x81 thru 0x84

      I changed the identifier on AES 0x81 to 0x80 and I still have no sound. Am I using the correct stream? When I save the changed file, what name should I give it? I'm sure these are basic questions, but I feel like I'm so close and I'm just missing a step.

      One last thought. Is there a way to rip the sound track just using smartripper? All the postings I've read tell me VOBrator is the solution, but Cast Away has me stumped. If it would be no troble, a step-by-step procedure would make me very happy.

      BTW setarip, I never doubted your advice. I had to fly out to California for several days after that first posting and never got a chance to try it until this past weekend. Seems like I repeated my mistake from the first time : ) Thank you and everyone else in advance.

        And you didn't stop by to say, "Hello"? ;>}

        I wonder if you wouldn't mind trying a simple experiment. Instead of using SmartRipper, would you try using Flask, which will generate a combined video/audio .AVI file (I continue to use the more "mature" v.0.594PX3, which is rock solid in its performance). Select "Load DVD" (NOT "Load File"). Select the VTS_03_0 IFO for Cast Away and select the first audio track in the list. This should be the DTS track - and it should cause Flask to lock up. If so, close Flask (through the Task Manager, only if necessary) and then restart it. Go through the same procedure, except this time select the second audio file. This should load properly (Of course, if the FIRST audio file loaded properly, follow these instructions for IT instead). Make all the required settings and under the "General" tab, set compiling time to 3,000 frames. If you like the results, change the setting to "Compile whole file" and let 'er rip... (If it's the wrong language, or director's commentary, go to the third language choice, etc.)
