Cut and Paste in a DivX video

When I record a movie from TV with my MPEG2 TV-Card,
i usually first convert the entire movie to
DivX and then use VirtualDUB to
    "cut out" publicity and commercials.
When cutting on the key frames, this usually works good and there is no audio-video sync problem.

    The question now iss :
What is a good way to
"cut and paste" part of a video file.
For example, taking a selection, but not deleting it,
rather copying it into some clipboard and pasting it at a different position.

VirtualDUB does not have such a function,
and most professional video editing software will not open AVIs in DivX format.

So, who has good experience with simple "cut and paste" post-processing, after the video has been converted into divx.
    many thanks

Try AVIEDIT it's a good program. Allows cut and pasting. You can select a certain amount of frames and do what you want with them. I'm not sure anymore where I got it from but you can search for it. Or if you can't find it I'll be happy to email it to you. It's only about 300k.

Actually, this can be accomplished with VirtualDub, albeit not as simple as "Cutting & Pasting" - rather, by "Saving", "Deleting", and "Pasting", as follows:

      1) Load you original video into VDub
      2) Set both "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Processing Mode"
      3) Set the "Set selection start" and "Set selection end" points for the part you wish to cut and move to a different position (Edit)
      4) Select "Save as Avi" (File) to save this portion as a new filename
      5) Select "Delete Frames" (Edit)
      6) Set ONLY "Beginning of selection" (Edit) to the point where you wish to insert the previously removed portion
      7) Select "Append Avi segment" (File)
      8) Select "Move to beginning" (NOT "Move to beginning of segment")
      9) Select "Set selection start"
      10) Select "Move to end" (NOT "Move to end of selection")
      11) Select "Set selection end"
      12) Save your new avi with a different filename

      Let us know of your success ;>}
