    How do u convert an avi/mpeg to a dvd

    do u know how to covert an avi file(really mpeg but says AVI) to a dvd. i have all the things needed like Gspot, AVIcodec, etc. I dont know how to continue the process once ive rendered the file. The codec won't show up ( by the way what is a codec?). How do find the codec and wat other things should i download.

    thx,

    One set of procedures (other posters may/probably will suggest alternative methods) would be:

    1) Use "TMPGEnc" (or "TMPGEncPlus") to convert the .AVI (DivX-compressed or otherwise) to compliant MPEG2-for-DVD format - Use "TMPGEnc's" DVD wizard/template to accomplish this

    2) Use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (a different program than "TMPGEnc") to easily create the required additional DVD files and structure (and chapters and a menu, if you wish)

    **If the combined filesize of the DVD "package" written to your hard drive is greater than 4.37Gb, use DVD Shrink (or similar) to compress

    If your O/S is either Win2000 or WinXP, TMPGEnc DVD Author can also burn your DVD. Otherwise, use NERO to burn in "DVD-Video" mode
    (As an alternative to "TMPGEnc DVD Author", you could use "DVDLab")

    Let us know of your success ;>}

        Went Well thanks

        yah thanks for ur help
        but i first went well but i had to first encode it with TMPGenc and then use TMPGenc dvd author and made it to a new file and created chapters and a menu for the movie (eddie murphy's "delirious") and then i went on to burning it on TMPGenc dvd author but it took too long. I then used nero by getting the files and compiling the movie files and created it to a DVD. Any ways it went well and thanks for ur help.

              i use a program called mpeg2vcr and then I use ulead moviefactory to burn it and make chapters and headers. works great. Comes out looking the way it did as an mpeg and takes less than an hour. mpeg2vcr is also know as womble. Tmpeg always took me around 8 hours when I was making vcd so I never bothered.

                This will depend mainly on the quality of your source AVI. If it's a high quality divx, the conversion to MPEG2 will cause little to no quality loss.

                  Does anyone know about a program called divX2DVD suppose to be able to convert avi files to something so you can burn the files to dvd. I read the above post about converting using TEMPGENC SOUNDS VERY COMPLICATED and sounds like it takes forever-Open to other suugestions if you know of the program I am speaking about do you have any idea if you can dl it from download.com or some other freeware site.

                  Thanks
                  J
