Copy DVD movies to DVDr

It will not work just by copy the dvd movies to the DVDr
But if I rip the whole movie to the exact format , save it in the hard drive then burn it to the DVDr will it work?
My method is use Smart Ripper to rip the movie first.
Did anyone try that before? The DVD I am going to get is Pioneer DVR-A03 is it a good one ?

Let's see......you are spending around 500.00 for a DVD-RW drive, about 13.00 for the blank media. A DVD is around 20 bucks, go buy the DVD.
