    vhs to avi ?? & is there a better encoder

    Hi!! how do I convert my vhs movies to avi.. and or what program to use to record these on my computer to save them...and wanted to know if there is a better encoder than the TMPGenc 12a .. becasue some of my VCD will not play in the newer DVD players..

    I can assure you that it's not a fault of TMPGEnc v1.2A (or 1.2C that I still use) or any of the later 2.xxx versions. Many standalone players, new or otherwise, if they play VCDs at all, are very "finicky" about which brands of CD-Rs they will recognize.
    I've personally had great success with Prime Peripherals, ArtMedia, and Princo brands. Additionally, most of the players WILL recognize many brands of R/W CDs.
