MOV Plays White Video With Sound

I've got a MOV file in which the audio plays fine but the video does not. When I try to play it in QT, it says "You may experience problems playing a video track in 'myvid.mov because the required compressor could not be found." On another occasion, QT tried to get the software from the QT site, to no avail. When I continue, it plays with a white screen. In TMPGEnc, with the QT decoder, the resulting MPG has white video, too. No other programs seem to be able to read this video. I assume there is video data in this file, since the file size is 56MB and it's only 4 minutes. I have the 3ivx codec, which I have seen recommended as a solution to this problem, but it is linked to the Windows Media Player, which cannot open this file. Anyone have any suggestions on how I might be able to watch this MOV or convert it into a more usable format? With many thanks and best wishes.

Thanks for replying, SF. I'm using Win2K Pro, SP4. So is it possible that the OS is the problem? How can that be so? I can play most other MOV files, though once in a while I have had this problem. The MOV in question is a download, not from a multimedia CD.

When the DK application itself wouldn't work, I started up Quicktime to see if I could play the mov's from the CD. I ended up with a time line slider moving with a completely shut video frame
Gonna email my System Administrator now while I think of it!

Interesting, let me know what your administrator says. The file loads into QT and after the compressor message, it plays with sound proceeding normally to the end, but the screen is blank.

hmm, just Googled Quicktime and there's a version 6.5.1 for Win98/Me/2000/XP!

As they say ... watch this space!
