I have a few divx and xvid movies where the audio is out of sync to the video by the same amount all the way through. Is there a program / tool where i can adjuct the a/v sync.

A) If the difference between audio and video is constant throughout the video:
Load the file into VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod, or NanDub.
Set BOTH "Video"(VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod and NanDub) and "Audio" (VirtualDub and NanDub - VirtualDubMOD>"Streams>"Stream list") to "Direct Stream Copy".
From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Interleaving" (For VirtualDubMOD, rightclick on the listed audiostream and then select "Interleaving")
Under "Audio skew correction", set an appropriate number of milleseconds (positive or negative) in the box labelled "Delay audio track by"
Save with a new filename
B) If the difference increases as the movie plays:
From under the "Video" dropdown menu, select "Framerate" - and select "Change so video and audio durations match"

B) seldom works, ever.
Although more involved, progressive sync is fixable.
Open the avi in virtualdub. Figure out how far out of sync it is at the end of the movie. A rough guess will do at this point.
Open the avi in Goldwave.
If the audio is BEHIND of the video, crop some audio from the end of the file.
If the audio is AHEAD of the video, add some silence to the end of the file.
Click File, save as, .wav
Remux the .wav with the avi in virtualdub and check it.
Adjust as needed in Goldwave.
Once you're satisfied, you can remux in virtualdub to avi, or simply remux during encoding.
The same applies to mpegs.
Demux, adjust audio, save wav, transcode to mp2 in tmpgenc, remux, or if you're doing dvd, remux in your authoring program.Comment
