How to convert MPG sound to...

    Hi!

My DVD player cant play the audio on a disc because the audio format is MPG. Which program shall I use to convert the audio, and what is the standard audio format? (It is just a plain stereo track, no surround on this disc).

    Thanx in advance,

    Richie

    1) Is the "disc" a DVD or CD?

    2) Is the "disc" audio-only, or is it a video that includes audio?

Sorry for not being obvious enough.

It is a DVD (a music concert)

It contains both audio and video.

It works fine in a cheaper player that can read several formats, but my state of the art player wont play MPG audio.

      Thanx in advance,

      Richie

"what is the standard audio format?"

PCM (.WAV) stereo, .AC3, or DTS...

So if I want to convert the audio from MPG to DTS for instance, is there any program available for this operation?

Yes there is but be prepared to spend $500 for the DTS encoder. You can get it at - http://www.surcode.com/low/low_index.html

in order to be of correct help you should have postet the
model and maybe manufacturer of your DVD player.
Then , knowing the abilities of your preferred player we
              could be of some help.

but I guess that your player is able to play an AC3 audio format
that is the next solution and codecs are availabe for a lesser price.

If there is no surround sound on the disk you can adjust
the ac3 to 2 channels stereo at a high bitrate , to maintain
all of the audioquality provided by the mpeg1 layer 2 audio stream.

ah.... there comes something to my mind.
since every DVD player contains an Mpeg decoder chip
your player should be able to play Mpeg 1 layer 2 audioformat.
it might be that the mpeg1 layer 2 audioformat on your disk is
at 44.1 khz you should simply reencode that audio into 48 khz
                mpeg1 layer 2.

Tmpeg could do that for you or a lot of other freeware audio tools.
