what is the best software for extracting vbr audio from an avi with a view to converting it to say wave or an mp3 with a constant bit rate,and what software to convert it.
links if possible please.also when it is converted will tmpg resync it when converting to mpg.

You should be able to load the avi using VirtualDub and extract the audio by using the command Save WAV.

If you set the audio processing to Direct Stream Copy, you will get the audio in the original format as in the avi (usually MP3), but with the extension wav. If you want true wav file, then set it to Full Processing Mode and choose Uncompressed in the compression tab.
