Splitting Episodic DVDs

When using DVD Shrink is it at all possible to take, say the first three of four episodes of an episodic DVD and burn them to a DVD-R (using Re-Auth mode), then combine the remaining episode with the first two on the NEXT episodic DVD in the series, and so on, basically to improve the compression?

Alternately, is there a way to take a 5.1 audio and make it simple stereo in an effort to put the four episodes mentioned above on one DVD-R with better video compression? Thanks

Excellent thank you! I'd only been working with discs so far and never ripped to a drive first, but now it makes sense.
