How to use VBR audio in AVI's ??

I'm trying to use VBR mp3's in my avi files. I'm backing up my DVD's to AVI using Flask. I've tried Gordian Knot and the interface is just not as clean as Flask. Anyway, I don't think the problem is Flask. Flask works just fine if I use CBR audio. When I try to use the Divx audio codec or Lame VBR mp3 codec, the audio speeds up and slows down through the movie so there is no way to sync i with Nandub. The only way I've gotten to work is doing 320kbps CBR with lame then using BeSweet to convert that to Lame VBR. This makes me think it's a problem with my ACM Lame codec but then the Divx codec still doesn't work either.

Maybe someone can tell me where to download a VBR lame ACM codec that they've had success with. I would try Ogg Vorbis but I don't think it works in most stand alone Divx players like the Phillips.

I know this may be the wrong forum but I'm not getting any responses in the Divx forum.

Good link about Lame, thanks. I kinda figured that but my Divx audio doesn't work right either. I guess maybe they meant ALL VBR is problematic with ACM.

I'm gonna try that conversion program too. I'm using the GUI for BeSweet and it's kinda buggy.

Do you happen to know what the STANDARD settings for Lame are? The ones considered maximum compression but TOTALLY transparent? The presets don't seem to change all the settings.
