    Oceans.Eleven.DVD.SCREENER.DivX-DVL

Well i downloaded this and there was no sound and that is very irritating, and i was wondering if anybody could know the reason and maybe help me so that the download wasn't a complete waste ?

Properties of the .avi say that the audio codec is unknown!

If you can load it into VirtualDub, under the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information". Post here what you see...

I've got the same file and had no sound initially.

I downloaded one of the Codec packs on this site and it now plays OK in Windows Media Player BUT can get no audio in Virtual Dub, TMPGEnc or Adobe Premiere.

I'm still looking into it but it seems to be something to do with the fact that this is a DVD rip and the sound is oddly compressed - e.g the usual methods for stripping the sound from VirtualDub don't work.

So if anyone can throw anymore light on this ??????

... in the meantime I think I may have found the answer to my problem, through some experimenting and other posts elsewhere in this forum.

If you open the file in VirtualDub and set the Audio option to DIRECT STREAM COPY, then from the File menu save it as a .WAV file, this will produce a file of the sound only that is in .ac3 (not .Wav) format so will sound screwy if played back. (NB: Attemps to convert in full processing mode always gave an error with this particular file for me).

However if you use a utility like AC3DEC you can convert the .ac3 file into a .wav file.

Now if you go back into VirtualDub and from the Audio menu choose WAV Audio (and then point to the wave file you've just made) and hit Preview, then everything plays fine.

If you need to make a VCD (as I want to) then simply load the avi into TMPGEnc (for me!) but specify the Audio track from the wave file.

Hope some of this makes sense and is of use to some people out there!!!!
